Chick Rearing Shed This is were all the youngsters bred here at LPH poultry start there little lives, they will spend 6 weeks in this shed, three of them weeks will be spent under heat lamps to keep them warm they will then be weaned of the heat over a further 3 weeks moving along one cage per week until they are big enough and strong enough to face the outside world. Growers Pen As you can see every bird sold here at LPH poultry is reared in big grass pens to ensure they have a good quality of life, i believe this is a big factor in breeding happy hens. In the summer months they come into the pens at 6 weeks and will be reared on Growers pellets until approximately 6-8 months old. After that they will either be sold to loving homes or kept by myself and used for breeding the following year. How Are My Birds Kept So Healthy? Well this is a good question I do stick to a strict regime first of all I worm all the birds every 6-8 weeks ensuring they are rid of any internal parasites. Always make sure you creosote your chicken house inside and out once a year this will stop any mites making a nice cozy home in your coop and then running along the perches at night to feed on the blood of your chickens. last but not least you must make sure you clean your birds out regularly preferably once a week to ensure the bedding is kept clean and dry for your cheeky chickens.
